Five Ways Going Green Can Help Your Business Save Money
Making a difference for the environment means making a difference for your bottom line. You can reduce costs and grow your revenue just by following some simple green business practices.
i. Modest changes can lead to drastic savings. Did you know that 600 tons of steel could be saved if every office worker in the United States used one less staple a day? Sounds shocking, but it’s just another example of this crucial principle in action: Tiny things add up to big impacts. Apply the same idea in your workplace and watch your savings soar.
ii. Use less, save more. Green businesses make use of this simple financial strategy better than anyone: Reduce costs by reducing consumption. You can start curbing paper consumption by storing all files on computers instead of in file cabinets, using glassware instead of plasticware, keep your supply costs down.
iii. Using green products can cost less. Yes, it’s true. Remanufactured toners and recycled printer cartridges are significantly cheaper than their non-recycled counterparts.
iv. Efficiency is cheap. Wholesale prices are cheaper, so buy in bulk. By doing so you’ll simultaneously reduce shipping and packaging costs and waste.
v. It doesn’t cost a thing to try green. You have nothing to lose by taking the first step toward greening your business. The GBB tracking tool allows you to monitor your progress, and you can start slowly and see for yourself how each small step yields economic gains.

How To Start A Green Business For Free
1. Make a short plan using these guidelines;
* What do you want to do?
Make sure its something you love or is a good fit for your personality or unique talents. Never do it just for the money.
* Who are your customers?
Why do they need or want you? How much can they afford to spend? Where can you find them to market your product or service? How often will they buy your product? How long will they want your product or service? (for example; teens may only be your customer for 5 years or less) How likely are they to tell others about your product?
After you figure out your profit decide how many customers you need or want each week. Start small and build this number over 1 year. Realistic goals are critical here! Read more…

Start a Green Business
by: Amanda C. Kooser
Even Wal-Mart sells organic cotton T-shirts these days, but you definitely don’t have to be a retailing behemoth to take your business in a green or organic direction. In fact, entrepreneurs have an advantage when it comes to reaching customers who care about the cause as well as the products.
“It’s a highly underrated opportunity for small business,” says Dr. Karel J. Samsom, a specialist in environmental and sustainable entrepreneurship and author of Spirit of Entrepreneurship. A study by the Organic Trade Association shows that nonfood organic product sales reached $744 million in U.S. consumer sales in 2005, with supplements, personal care and household products leading the charge. For green entrepreneurs, passion is key, says Samsom: “People who are imbued with this kind of spirit have an incredible imagination to rebuild the value chain and inspire their customers in the process.” Read more…
